Mystery Reader

Every year the Firstie Nation opens its doors to the Senate's families and friends for a little mystery reading.  It is a ton of fun.

  This year I am honored to have one of my BFF teacher friend's little baby in my class.  So, little miss' mom volunteered to come to the Nation and read a story.

Clues:

I work with kids.

I LOVE warm weather.

I have two children.

My favorite holiday is the 4th of July.

I have a daughter in your class.

And because Coach Isaac's is a teacher...she not only read an AWESOME story, but she brought a cool little activity to go along with it,

The mystery story was "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs."  After the story, the senate was split into groups, to build a house with sticks, bricks (Lego) and straws.  After they built their houses, the wolf came to blow  (or sneeze) their houses down.

They had so much fun!   We had MEA last week so they didn't have a mystery read last Friday.  Let's see who's next...

Firstie Fanatics!  We made it a  whole week with out any late starts or closings!!!  Woot!  Woot!  With that being said, it was a looong week of COLD!  Many days of indoor recess. MAKES. A. FIRSTIE. and their TEACHA.CRAY.CRAY!!!! 

Good people of the great Nation of First, pull out your four-leaf clovers, rub that rabbit's foot, wish on a shooting star, cross your fingers....DO ANYTHING so that this winter decides to take a hike!  Sorry....I get a little emotional when thinking of 6 more weeks of winter...stinkn' groundhog!

 We worked on greater than > and less than < and equal to = signs this week.

We also worked with even and odd numbers.  Meet Odd Todd and Even Steven.

Even Steven likes only even numbers.  He likes things to be fair.  He can only hold things in his two hands that are equal amounts.  Odd Todd...he's a little odd.  He doesn't really care how many he has in each hand.

This is a Varpness child.  I will not mention names, as he would possibly squish me if he knew I put this on here.  I HAD TO!  (Even first grade teachers have a little spunk!)  He is going to be a doctor.  We will call him Dr. Minnow!

Sci. Fri (That really is a Tuesday, because our teacher runs out of time on Fridays!)

Hey Firstie Fans!  Sci. Fri. came a little early this week, or late from last week!  Depends how you look at it?  I'm a glass full kind of girl...so I'm gonna just be happy that we got it in! 

PENGUINS!!!!!!  We have been learning a lot about penguins.  We learned a funny word....BLUBBER!!!!  Ha! 

Ask a question:  Will my hands be cold in the blubber?
Make a hypothesis: I think my hand will be... (cold) (warm)
Conduct and Experiment: Stick one hand in the blubber bag.  Stick the other hand in the ice.  Can you tell a difference?
Results:  My hand was... (warm)
Conclusion:  Blubber keeps penguins....(warm)

New Year...New Look

I am so sorry Firstie Nation, that I have been off the grid as of late.  It has been crazy busy with the holidays and then that wonderful cold winter weather that had to bless us with it's presence!  (not really...I disliked it very much!) If I had real president powers, I would have shut that down immediately!!!

Calling all Pete the Cat enthusiasts!  Pete the Cat reading night...January 13th!  6:30-7:30!  Come one...come all!!!!  We have 12 out of 16 students signed up!!!  That's what I'm talkin' about!!!

100th Day Approaches...

Holy cat's pajamas!  I cannot believe that we just celebrated the 90th day of school Friday!  We are gearing up to celebrate the 100th day of school on or around Monday, January 27th!  (no snow days..no snow days!) 

• The senate members should be working on their 100 item collections. (These can be brought in whenever they are ready.)  The 100th day is 100 kinds of fun!   We will be counting to 100 like no other!
• We are still collecting food items for our 100 snack.  We are still in need of...

Firstie Nation was all a twitter today!  When the firsties came back from their specials today, they found a package on the table from the Gingerbread Man.

 Inside the package, was a bag of delicious Gingerbread cookies.  Yummmo!!!
Each firstie took a bite of their cookie.  They needed to decide whether to bite the head, arm or foot first.

Penny War Winners!!!!!  WHOOT!!!  WHOOT!!!!  The firsties were rewarded with a popcorn and movie party today!!!  They won the war!!!!!!  First grade as entire grade level raised $125 dollars!!!!!
Lakeview school raised $771.58!!!!!!!!!  My.heart.is.full!!!

All but the kitchen sink.....

Well Good People of the Firstie Nation are you in for a treat....because your fearless leader has fallen behind in her blogging duties you are getting a bunch of catch up pictures and updates.  This wintry weather has frozen my brain.  DON'T JUDGE ME!!!  (Please?)

Our scenery changed this Wednesday.  Nothing better for a firstie than fresh white snow to play in with friends.  This is my crazy kiddo showing her stuff.

 A little Christmas Art fun!  We have missed Art class 2 weeks in a row.  This didn't sit well with the senate, so we had to a little art to please the crowd!!!
